Why :
|
For fun, friendly competition and some cool awards. Winners of the Grand Prix age categories will receive a prize consisting of a piece of running apparel (i.e. technical shirt, singlet, hat, or visor). However, in order to qualify, entrants need to complete a minimum of 6 PRA races during the season and 2 of these must be long runs (over 5K).
|
Grand Prix participants who do not win their age category, but register for and complete at least 8 of the 10 PRA races during the season will also receive a “frequent racer” award (such as one of the above).
If Grand Prix entries are received after the 1st race of the season, but prior to the start of the next scheduled PRA run then the 1st race points will still be counted (Example: points from the Seafood Festival 5K Run will count if the Grand Prix entry form is received before the start of the PRA Veterans’ Run). However, later Grand Prix entries will only earn points from the date the entry was received.
The prior PRA Grand Prix point system is unchanged with 100 pts for 1st place, 90 pts for 2nd place…through 10 pts for 10th place.
*New 2009-2010 Grand Prix rules & changes*
* Anyone who officially race directs, coordinates, or volunteers at any of the PRA races will receive 71 points for that run. Participation in that race will also count towards the "frequent racer" award.
